   On February 26, Jinggangshan City in Jiangxi Province announced that it had lifted itself out of poverty, becoming the first county to do so after the establishment of the poverty elimination program in China. On March 27, the Lankao County of Henan Province announced that it had been removed from the list of counties affected by poverty in China.

   By 2017, a total of 28 impoverished counties across the country had lifted themselves out of poverty. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China has made decisive progress in fighting poverty. More than 60 million poor people have been lifted out of poverty. The incidence of poverty has decreased from 10.2% to less than 4%.

   The number of poor people in 2017 is estimated to exceed 10 million.
